About

An exploration of the drive for activism and the desire for social justice, this blog is for what turns me on.
My name is Alok and I identify as a romantic queer desi scholar activist artist. I am currently at Stanford University studying Queer Studies, Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, and Sociology. I have spent the past few years organizing with queer movements in India, South Africa, and the United States. I’m committed to reducing the gap between the ‘academy’ and ‘social movements.’ This blog is an attempt to translate the theories I learn and write about within the ‘ivory tower,’ into more accessible (I know I’m trying!) formats for consumption by activists and marginalized communities. I will use this blog to share my thoughts on issues (including, but not limited to) queer politics/theory, transgenderism, (a)sexuality, race, (dis)ability, post-colonialism, capitalism, speciesism, feminism, diaspora, fashion, art, and activist methodology.
The material published on this tumblr is my original work. Contact me at alokbvm@gmail.com if you’d like to use some of it.
